Exploring Ekin's Past
Ekin has an interesting history. It was named a long time ago by a person named James McKee. He decided to name the community after a general named Ekin.
Early Buildings and Gifts
James McKee built the very first house in Ekin. This house was special because it also served as a store for the community. After about five years, McKee sold his property and moved away. General Ekin heard that a place was named after him. As a thank you, he sent James McKee a bible as a gift.
Timber Industry and Post Office
In the past, Ekin was known for its strong timber industry. Timber means wood from trees. The wood from Ekin was so good that it was even sent to other countries! This helped the community grow.
A post office was opened in Ekin in 1875. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1902.

Ekin is found in the southern part of a place called Jefferson Township. It sits right on the border between Tipton County and Hamilton County. This means parts of Ekin are in one county, and other parts are in the other!
