El Cairo is a district located in the Limón province of Costa Rica. It is part of the Siquirres canton. A district is like a smaller area within a larger region, similar to a town or a neighborhood.

History of El Cairo

El Cairo became an official district on September 19, 1911. This happened because of a special law called "Ley 11". This law helped define the different areas of Costa Rica.

Geography of El Cairo

El Cairo covers an area of about 107.2 square kilometers. This is roughly 41 square miles. It is located about 99 meters (325 feet) above sea level. Being close to the sea level means it's not very high up in the mountains.
