El Chorrillo is a vibrant neighborhood located within Panama City, the capital of Panama. It is part of the Panamá District in the Panamá Province. In 2010, about 18,302 people lived in El Chorrillo. This area is known for its rich history and strong community spirit.

History of El Chorrillo

El Chorrillo was officially founded on April 29, 1915. Many of its first residents were immigrants who came to Panama to work on the huge Panama Canal project. A lot of these workers came from islands in the Antilles, bringing their cultures and traditions to the area.

Over the years, El Chorrillo became a well-known neighborhood. It faced challenges, but its people always showed great strength. In 1989, the area was heavily damaged during a military action involving the United States. Despite this, the community worked hard to rebuild and recover.

The population of El Chorrillo has changed over time. In 1990, there were 20,488 residents. By 2000, the population had grown to 22,632 people.

El Chorrillo is proud to be the home of several famous Panamanians. One of the most well-known is the legendary boxer Roberto Durán. He is a true sports hero and is even in the boxing Hall of Fame!

Another notable person from El Chorrillo is Manuel Noriega. He was a political figure who served as the military leader of Panama. The neighborhood also produced the talented poet Hector Miguel Collado.

Sports are a big part of life in El Chorrillo. It is the only district in Panama that has two top-tier football clubs playing in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol. These teams are Chorrillo F.C. and Plaza Amador. They bring a lot of excitement and pride to the community.
