El Sieco's was a popular music venue and bar in Newport, Wales. It opened its doors in 2016 on High Street. Sadly, the venue closed in 2020 because of the worldwide health situation.
Ashley Sicolo owned El Sieco's. He is the grandson of John Sicolo. John Sicolo owned another famous Newport music spot called TJ's. TJ's was a big part of the Newport music scene until it closed in 2010.
El Sieco's quickly became a favorite place for live music. It was even named one of the top five music venues in Newport by a local newspaper. In 2019, there were plans to move El Sieco's to a bigger building on Market Street. This new spot was going to open in September 2019. It would have space for 350 people and two floors with different music rooms on weekends. However, in October 2020, Ashley Sicolo announced that the club would not reopen. He explained that the health crisis stopped everything. He felt it was time for him to move on.

The Story Behind El Sieco's
TJ's: A Legendary Music Spot
El Sieco's had a special connection to a very famous nightclub called TJ's. TJ's was located on Clarence Place in Newport. It opened in 1985 and became a key part of the "toilet circuit." This was a nickname for smaller venues where bands played before becoming famous. A well-known radio DJ, John Peel, even praised TJ's. The club proudly called itself "The Legendary TJ's."
Changes After TJ's Closed
In 2010, John Sicolo, the owner of TJ's, passed away. He reportedly used much of his own money to keep the club running. After his death, the original building was sold.
In 2012, John Sicolo's grandson, Ashley Sicolo, tried to bring back the spirit of TJ's. He opened a new venue called the 200 Club on Stow Hill. This new club had cool decorations, including old TJ's posters and souvenirs. In May 2013, some famous musicians played there. These included Keith Levene from the band PiL and Andy Cairns from Therapy?. However, this club closed on May 26, 2013, because of complaints about noise.
