Elaine "Lainey" Lui (Chinese: 雷若芬, born September 26, 1973) is a Canadian television personality and reporter. She is well-known for her website, LaineyGossip.com, where she shares celebrity news. Elaine is also an anchor on CTV's show etalk and was a co-host on the daily talk show The Social.

Early Life and Education
Elaine Lui was born and grew up in Toronto, Canada. Her parents, Judy and Bernard, moved to Canada from Hong Kong in 1970. They worked hard at different jobs, like washing dishes and cleaning hotel rooms. Later, her father found a steady job as an accountant.
When Elaine was six years old, her parents divorced, and her mother went back to Hong Kong. Elaine spent many summers visiting her mother in Hong Kong. Her parents got back together when she was 16.
Elaine went to the Toronto French School for middle and high school. She then graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. In 1996, she earned a degree in French and history from the University of Western Ontario.
Elaine Lui's Career Journey
After finishing university, Elaine worked for Rogers Communications. She helped train people to set up Internet connections.
Later, Elaine worked in fundraising for non-profit groups. She was living in Vancouver and working for the University of British Columbia. She moved back to Toronto to help care for her mother, who needed a kidney transplant. Then, Elaine took a job at Covenant House, which provides shelter and help for young people experiencing homelessness.
How LaineyGossip Started
LaineyGossip.com began as a simple email. Elaine used to send emails to two friends, sharing the latest celebrity news. More and more people wanted to be on her email list, so she decided to start a blog. In 2006, she left her job at Covenant House to work on her blog full-time.
Working in Television
In 2006, etalk, a Canadian entertainment news show on CTV, hired Elaine. Since joining etalk, she has reported from many big events. These include the Oscars, the Super Bowl, the JUNO Awards, the Sundance Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
On September 2, 2013, a new show called The Social started. Elaine was one of the co-hosts, along with Melissa Grelo, Cynthia Loyst, and Traci Melchor. The show airs every day at 1 p.m. on CTV.
In 2015, Elaine took part in Canada Reads. This is a competition where people defend a book they believe everyone should read. Elaine supported Raziel Reid's novel When Everything Feels Like the Movies.
Elaine also made her acting debut on the TV show Murdoch Mysteries. In one episode, she played Gail, a gossip columnist.
Personal Life
Elaine Lui married Jacek Szenowicz when she was 28 years old. They live in Toronto with their two dogs, Barney and Elvis. Jacek also helps with the LaineyGossip.com website. Elaine has shared that she and her husband have decided not to have children.
Awards and Recognition
Elaine Lui has been recognized for her work in television. She has received several nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards. These awards celebrate excellence in Canadian film, television, and digital media.
In 2019, she won an award for Host, Web Program or Series for eTalk Live: The Oscars Balcony. She has also been nominated multiple times for her hosting roles on eTalk and The Social.
