Elantxobe is a small town and municipality located in the Basque Country, a region in northern Spain. It is part of the Biscay province. This charming coastal town is known for its unique location and fishing traditions.
Exploring Elantxobe's Past
Elantxobe started as a fishing port in 1524. It became important in the 1600s as a place to defend the coast of Biscay. Today, this old defensive spot is used as a marina for boats.
Until 1858, Elantxobe was actually a part of the nearby town of Ibarrangelu. It then became its own separate municipality. The town celebrates its special festival for its patron saint, San Nicolás de Bari, every year on December 6th.
