History of Elbridge Township

Elbridge Township has an interesting past. It was once part of a special area set aside for the Ottawa people, a Native American tribe. This area was created by a treaty in 1855. The township itself was officially formed in 1858.

Elbridge Township has been home to a few small communities over time.

  • Elbridge was a community that had its own post office from 1883 to 1905. A post office is where people send and receive mail.
  • Elwood was another community. It was a place where people worked with lumber, which is wood used for building. Elwood also had a post office from 1898 to 1901.
