Elena Congost Mohedano (born on September 20, 1987, in Madrid, Spain) is an amazing track and field athlete. She competes in the T12/B2 category, which is for athletes with a vision impairment. Elena was born with an eye condition that caused her vision to get worse over time. Besides being a top athlete, she is also a teacher who lives in Barcelona, Spain.
Elena has competed in many Paralympic Games, including 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2024. She won a gold medal in the marathon at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. She also earned a silver medal in the 1500 meters at the 2012 London Paralympics.

About Elena Congost
Elena Congost was born on September 20, 1987, in Madrid. Her vision started to get worse when she was still in school. Today, she works as a teacher.
In 2008, Elena moved to Castelldefels, a town near Barcelona. She was still living there in 2012. In 2011, she won an award for the best female athlete with a disability in Castelldefels. In 2013, she lived at a special High Performance Centre in San Cugat del Vallés. There, she shared a room with famous swimmer Mireia Belmonte. Also in 2013, Elena received a special award called the "silver Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo" for her achievements.
Since 2009, Elena has been a vegan. She chose this lifestyle for ethical reasons, to help the environment, and for her health. She believes it has greatly improved her well-being.
Elena's Athletics Career
Elena Congost is a T12/B2 athlete. This means she has a significant vision impairment. She is a member of the ISS L'Hospitalet Atletisme club.
Early Competitions
Elena started competing at a young age.
- In 2002, she finished seventh in the long jump at the IPC World Championship in France.
- In 2003, she placed fifth in both the 100 meters and long jump at the EPC European Athletics Championships.
- Later in 2003, she won a silver medal in the 4×400 relay at the IBSA World Games Athletics in Quebec. She also placed fifth in the long jump at that event.
Paralympic Games and World Championships
Elena has a strong history of competing at the highest levels.
- She competed at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, finishing seventh in the 200-meter race.
- At the 2006 World Athletics Championships, she placed fifth in the 800 meters.
- In 2008, Elena competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics. She finished sixth in the 1500-meter race. She also raced in the 800 meters.
- At the 2011 IPC World Athletics Championships, she earned a silver medal in the T12 1500-meter race. This was a major achievement!
- In 2012, Elena received a special scholarship to help her train for the London Games. She trained with other Spanish visually impaired athletes.
London 2012 and Rio 2016 Success
At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Elena won a silver medal in the 1500-meter race. This was the first silver medal for a female track and field athlete from Spain at those Games. In 2013, she won a gold medal in the 1500 meters at the Spanish national championships. She also took part in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships.
Her biggest success came at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Elena won the gold medal in the marathon T12 event! This was an incredible victory.
2024 Paralympics
At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, Elena initially finished third in the marathon T12. However, she was later disqualified. This happened because she briefly let go of the tether connecting her to her guide. She did this to help her guide, who was having trouble finishing the race.
