Elena Huelva Palomo (born May 21, 2002 – died January 3, 2023) was a brave Spanish activist, online personality, and writer. She used social media to share her journey with Ewing sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Elena wanted everyone to know more about this disease and pushed for more money to be spent on cancer research. She helped many people understand childhood bone cancer better and cleared up common misunderstandings about it.

Elena's Fight and Message

Elena Huelva was born in Seville, Spain. On January 3, 2019, when she was 16 years old, she was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. She became well-known for sharing her experiences with the disease on social media, gaining over 950,000 followers on Instagram.

Elena strongly supported cancer research. She created the phrase "Mis ganas ganan," which means "My will wins" in English. This phrase showed her positive attitude against her illness.

Since 2019, she worked with many non-profit organisations that focus on cancer. In 2022, she wrote a book called "Mis ganas ganan. Nadie nos ha prometido un mañana, vive el presente". This means "My will wins. Nobody has promised us a tomorrow, live the present" in English. In her book, she told her story about living with cancer.

Her efforts helped more people learn about Ewing sarcoma. This led to more donations from private groups. It also showed that there wasn't enough public money in Spain for research into this rare disease.

Awards and Special Projects

On March 25, 2022, Elena received the Premio Bormujeres award for Youth and Communication from the city council of Bormujos. In October of the same year, she was given the Hope Award by Elle magazine. The famous singer Manuel Carrasco presented this award to her.

In December 2022, Elena designed a special scarf for a toy called "Baby Pelón." This toy was launched by the Juegaterapia Foundation. The money raised from selling these toys went to research Ewing sarcoma. For this purpose, the Juegaterapia Foundation created the "Elena Huelva Grant." This grant worked with the Spanish Group for Sarcoma Research (GEIS).

Elena's Legacy

Elena Huelva passed away on January 3, 2023, at the age of 20. Her disease had become worse over time. Her death caused a huge wave of sadness on social media. Many public figures shared their condolences. These included Spanish TV presenter Sara Carbonero, singers Pastora Soler and Manuel Carrasco, musician Alejandro Sanz, actress Ana Obregón, and the President of the Government of Andalusia Juan Manuel Moreno.

Even football clubs like Real Betis, which she supported, and Sevilla FC expressed their sorrow.

Elena's funeral service was held on January 4, 2023. Sara Carbonero and film director Alberto Rodríguez Librero attended. Elena was cremated in Camas, Seville.

On January 5, 2023, Real Betis dedicated their victory over CD Ibiza Islas Pitiusas to Elena. This was during a Copa del Rey match played in Ibiza.

Two months after her death, it was announced that the sales from the "Baby Pelón" toy Elena designed raised €87,000. This money was donated to Ewing sarcoma research through the "Elena Huelva Grant." This donation allowed Spain to join an important international study called Inter-Ewing-1.
