The Eleutherodactylus riparius is a type of frog that lives only in Cuba. It belongs to the Eleutherodactylidae family of frogs. This frog is also known as the Cuban Stream Frog.
About the Cuban Stream Frog
This special frog is found only on the island of Cuba. When a plant or animal lives in just one place in the world, it is called endemic. So, the Cuban Stream Frog is endemic to Cuba.
Where it Lives
The Cuban Stream Frog can live in many different places. Its natural habitats include:
- Warm, wet lowland forests
- Bushy areas with lots of shrubs
- Grassy areas that get wet or flooded sometimes
- Near rivers and in swamplands
- Temporary freshwater marshes
- Freshwater springs
These frogs are also good at living near people. You can find them in:
- Arable land (farmland)
- Pastures where animals graze
- Plantations (like coffee or sugar farms)
- Gardens in the countryside
- Urban areas (cities and towns)
- Areas where forests have been cut down
- Land that is watered for farming
- Farm fields that get flooded during certain seasons
Why it's in Danger
Even though the Cuban Stream Frog can live in many places, it is still considered a species that needs attention. Its biggest threat is habitat loss. This means that the places where it lives are being destroyed or changed. When forests are cut down, or wetlands are drained, these frogs lose their homes. This makes it harder for them to find food, shelter, and places to lay their eggs.
