The Eleutherodactylus zeus is a special type of frog also known as Zeus' robber frog. It belongs to the frog family called Eleutherodactylidae. This frog is found only in one specific place, which means it is endemic to western Cuba. You can find it in the Sierra de los Órganos and the Sierra del Rosario mountain ranges. These areas are located in the Pinar del Río and Artemisa provinces of Cuba.

Meet the Zeus' Robber Frog

Zeus' robber frog is a small amphibian that lives in unique places. It gets its name from the Greek god Zeus, perhaps because of its powerful presence in its small world. These frogs are part of a very large group of frogs found mostly in the Americas.

Where Does It Live?

This special frog loves to live in rocky areas. Its natural habitat includes rock crevices and caves. It prefers mesic broadleaf forests, which are forests with a good amount of moisture. These forests are usually found in limestone areas, where there are lots of rocks and caves for the frogs to hide in.

Why Is It in Danger?

Sadly, the Zeus' robber frog is facing some big challenges. Its population is threatened, mainly because its home is disappearing. This is called habitat loss. People building new things or visiting the area for tourism can disturb the frog's natural environment. When their homes are destroyed or changed, it becomes very hard for these frogs to survive. Protecting their unique habitat is important to help them thrive.
