Eleven80 is a very tall residential building, also known as a skyscraper, located in Newark, New Jersey. It stands at 137 meters (about 449 feet) high. The building gets its name from its address, 1180 Raymond Boulevard. It is a famous part of the Newark skyline. You can find it in Downtown Newark, close to Military Park.
History of Eleven80
This impressive building was first built in 1930. It started as a 36-story office building. At that time, it was the tallest building in Newark. It held this title until the National Newark Building was finished the next year.
The Eleven80 building was designed by a well-known architect named Frank Grad. It is famous for its beautiful Art Deco style. This style uses lots of geometric shapes and decorations.
For many years, the building was empty. It was vacant starting in 1986. But then, a company called Cogswell Group decided to give it a new life. They spent $120 million to change it into apartments. The building re-opened in 2006. These new apartments were the first new rental homes in downtown Newark in a long time.
Design and Features
The bottom five floors of Eleven80 are very special. They have decorative panels made of terra cotta. They also have metal spandrels, which are parts between windows. These are decorated with cool geometric flower designs.
If you look closely above the third floor, you can see the letters "LN." These letters stand for "Lefcourt Newark." That was the building's original name when it was first built.
Today, Eleven80 has 317 fancy apartments. These apartments have one or two bedrooms. They offer good value compared to similar places in nearby cities like New York City, Jersey City, and Hoboken.
Life at Eleven80
Living at Eleven80 comes with many cool features. Residents can enjoy a health club to stay fit. There is also a bowling alley for fun. You can play basketball on a special court. The building even has a media room for watching movies or playing games. For convenience, there is a free van service.
