About Eli Gras

Eli Gras grew up in a big family in Gràcia, a neighborhood in Barcelona, Spain. When she was young, in the 1980s, she was a founding member of an experimental music group called Etnia. She played with many different musicians, exploring styles like experimental, electropop, and minimalism.

In the 1990s, Eli Gras started performing her own solo concerts. She also kept working with other artists. Around the mid-1990s, she helped start the Obmuz Trio.

In 2002, she created La Olla Expréss. This group publishes unique books and CDs. Eli Gras has also been part of many experimental music festivals in Europe. She even started one herself in 2007 called NoNoLogic, and she is still its director. From 2012 to 2016, Eli Gras performed in Spain, France, and The Netherlands. She also took part in the Drap-Art-13 festival at CCCB.

Her Music Style

Eli Gras's music is a cool mix of different things. She often improvises, which means she makes up music on the spot. But she also uses planned songs with instruments and singing. She focuses on words and melodies that have strong feelings.

She uses many unusual instruments in her music. These include toys, specially prepared guitars, and other interesting objects. She also plays regular instruments like electric bass, small electronic keyboards, and flutes.

Other Creative Works

Eli Gras has loved poetry, writing, and other art forms since she was a child. In 1998, she published her first collection of short stories called Cuentos de la Olla Expréss. Later, La Olla Expréss republished it in 2002. She then released more books, Mis queridos objetos y otras poeprosas (2002) and Sin espejos (2006).

She has also read her works with the poet and musician Cèlia Sànchez-Mústich. Eli Gras was a radio host for a section called "Mans I mànigues" on the iCat Cabaret Electric program. Besides music and writing, she is also skilled in graphic design, illustration, packaging, and photography.
