Elisabeth Altmann-Gottheiner (born March 26, 1874 – died October 21, 1930) was a very important woman in German history. She was one of the first women to teach at a university in Germany. She also worked hard to support women's rights.
Elisabeth was born in Berlin, Germany. In 1904, she earned a special degree called a doctorate in Zurich, Switzerland. A doctorate means she had studied a subject very deeply at a university.
By 1908, she became a lecturer at an economics college in Mannheim. A lecturer is like a teacher at a university. By 1924, she became a professor, which is a very high teaching position. She taught about economics, which is the study of how money, goods, and services are made and used. She passed away in Mannheim when she was 56 years old.
Her Work and Legacy
Elisabeth Altmann-Gottheiner wrote many books and articles. These writings were about different questions in economics.
From 1912 onwards, she was the editor of a special book called Jahrbuch der Frauenbewegung. This book was about the women's rights movement. This movement works to make sure women have the same rights and opportunities as men.
Today, the University of Mannheim honors her work. They give an award called the "Elisabeth Altmann-Gottheiner-Preis" every year. This award is for students who write excellent papers on gender research. Gender research looks at how society understands and treats different genders.
