Elizabeth Chu Richter is a talented Chinese-born American architect. She is known for designing many important buildings. In 2015, she became the 91st President of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This is a big group for architects in the United States.
She also worked as the Vice President of the Texas Society of Architects starting in 2007. This means she helped lead architects in Texas. She also served on the AIA's National Board of Directors, representing Texas.
Elizabeth Chu Richter created and helped produce a radio show called The Shape of Texas. This show talked about architecture and was on NPR radio stations in Texas for eleven years.

She is the CEO of Richter Architects, her own architecture firm. Her company has designed many interesting places. Some of their projects include a special "living history" part of the National Museum of the Pacific War. They also designed the main building for the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Other projects include highway rest stops, the Solomon P. Ortiz National Center, and the Mustang Island Episcopal Conference Center.
Early Life and Education
Elizabeth Chu Richter was born in Nanjing, China. She spent her early childhood years in Hong Kong. In 1963, when she was thirteen, her mother, Irene Chu, moved with Elizabeth and her five brothers and sisters to Dallas, Texas.
Richter studied architecture at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1974. In 1989, she joined Kipp Richter & Associates, which later became Richter Architects. She also became a Fellow of the AIA in 2005. This is a special honor for architects.
Personal Life
Elizabeth Chu Richter is married to David Richter. They have worked together on many architecture projects and have won awards for their designs. They have been partners in both life and work for many years.
Elizabeth's father passed away when she was young. She grew up with her five siblings.
