Elizabeth was very talented. She was helped and guided by Charlotte Cushman, a famous American actress. Elizabeth also studied music, learning about harmony (how different notes sound good together) with a German composer named Ferdinand Hiller in Cologne, Germany.

She later wrote a book called How to Sing an English Ballad. This book was a collection of sixty songs. In London, Elizabeth lived near and was good friends with Catherine Hogarth. She was part of a group of many musicians and writers in the city. Elizabeth Philp passed away in London in 1885 when she was 58 years old.
