Elizabeth Wright (born in London, England, in 1964) is a talented English sculptor and installation artist. A sculptor is someone who creates art by shaping materials like clay, metal, or wood. An installation artist creates art that takes over a space, often making the viewer feel like they are part of the artwork.
Elizabeth Wright showed her amazing art at the Venice Biennale in 1995. The Venice Biennale is a very famous art exhibition that happens every two years in Venice, Italy. It's a big deal for artists to have their work shown there!
Two of her cool artworks are part of the collection at the Tate Gallery in London. The Tate Gallery is one of the most famous art museums in the world. One of her pieces is a sculpture of a bicycle called B.S.A. Tour of Britain Racer Enlarged to 135% (made in 1996 or 1997). This means the bicycle sculpture is 35% bigger than a real bicycle! Elizabeth Wright's Cool Exhibitions
Elizabeth Wright's art has been shown in many interesting places. Here are some of her notable exhibitions:
Art at Karsten Schubert
- In 1995, Elizabeth Wright had an exhibition at a gallery called Karsten Schubert in London. For this show, she created art that looked like everyday objects you might find at home or in a workplace. But here's the twist: she made these objects in really unusual sizes! Imagine a giant teacup or a tiny desk. People who saw her art said it showed how amazing human minds are at understanding and enjoying different things.
Skidmarks at Delfina
- In 1999, Elizabeth Wright created a special art piece at the Delfina gallery, also in London. This artwork was a "site-specific installation," which means it was made especially for that particular place. She recreated the look of rubber tire skidmarks on the gallery floor. The artwork was called C579DJD, J839TVC, A896TLP, which sounds like car license plates! It made visitors think about movement and traces left behind.
