Ellis is a small, quiet place in Custer County, Idaho, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a town or city with its own local government.
Ellis is located on U.S. Route 93. It is about 15.5 miles (25 kilometers) northeast of a town called Challis. Today, Ellis is mostly known for its post office, which has the ZIP code 83235.
The Story of Ellis
Ellis has been around for a long time. It first showed up on maps of Idaho way back in 1887.
In 1909, about 20 people lived in Ellis. By 1960, the population had become smaller, with only 10 people living there.
Ellis used to have more buildings, like its own store and a cafe. But in 1975, a fire sadly burned them down. The fire also caused some damage to the post office. Because of this, the post office had to move to a brand new building.
