Ellis Island is a small island located in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the amazing Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This special area helps protect the reef and its many creatures.
Where is Ellis Island Located?
Ellis Island is found off the coast of Queensland. It sits west of Cape Melville. It is also east of a town called Coen. The island is part of a group of islands known as the Claremont Isles.
Close to the Great Barrier Reef
The island is very close to the Great Barrier Reef. It is located between two openings in the reef. These openings are about 3 miles (5 kilometers) apart. Being so close means it's in a really important natural area.

Ellis Island is quite low to the ground. Its highest point is only about 1.57 meters (about 5 feet) above sea level. This low elevation makes it a unique part of the landscape.
