Elm City is a small town in North Carolina, United States. It is located in both Nash and Wilson County. In 2010, about 1,298 people lived there. Elm City is considered a suburb of the nearby city of Wilson.
In November 2021, Elm City made history. The town elected its first Black female mayor.

History of Elm City
Several important buildings in Elm City are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places that are protected because of their history. These include the Elm City Municipal Historic District, the W. H. Langley House, and the Webb-Barron-Wells House. They were added to the list in 1986.
In the summer of 1964, during a time of change in the United States, a group of young people volunteered to paint the local First Presbyterian Church. These volunteers were both Black and white. Later, adult volunteers returned to finish the work. The Governor of North Carolina, Terry Sanford, even sent state troopers to protect them. Today, Elm City is proud to welcome people of all backgrounds.

Education in Elm City
Elm City has two public schools for students. These are Elm City Elementary and Elm City Middle School. Elm City Elementary was once known as Frederick Douglas School. Elm City Middle School was formerly called Elm City School or Elm City High School. The schools in Elm City are known for their good sports programs.
Some famous athletes have come from Elm City. These include Jamie Watson, who played basketball in the NBA. Another notable basketball player from Elm City is John Virgil, an alum of UNC Basketball.
