Elmas, also known as Su Masu in the Sardinian language, is a town in Italy. It is a comune (which means a municipality or local area) in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. Elmas is located on the beautiful island of Sardinia, about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northwest of the city of Cagliari.
For a long time, until 1989, Elmas was actually a part of Cagliari. Today, it is well-known because it is home to the main airport for Cagliari. This airport is about 7 kilometers (4 miles) east of the town. In 2011, about 8,949 people lived in Elmas.
Elmas Weather: Hot Summers and Mild Winters
Elmas has a special kind of weather called a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. This means that its summers are usually very hot and dry. The winters, on the other hand, are mild and often have more rain.
This type of climate is linked to high subtropical pressure, which affects the weather patterns. Snow is very rare in Elmas, even though there are mountains not too far away. The amount of rain Elmas gets also makes its climate quite similar to semi-arid conditions, meaning it can be quite dry.
