Elobey Grande, also known as Great Elobey, is a small island located in the Gulf of Guinea. It is part of Equatorial Guinea, a country in West Africa. This island lies right at the mouth of the Mitémélé River. Not many people live on Elobey Grande today.
Island Neighbors
Elobey Grande has a smaller neighbor called Elobey Chico. Elobey Chico is very close by, but it is now completely empty of people.
A Look Back at Elobey Chico
Even though Elobey Chico is uninhabited today, it once played an important role. It used to be the main city, or "colonial capital," for the area known as Río Muni. This was during the time when Spanish Guinea was a colony.
