A main road, U.S. Route 136, goes right through the middle of the village. This road connects Elvaston to Carthage, which is the county seat, about 6 miles (10 km) to the east. It also leads west to Hamilton, a town on the Mississippi River, about 5 miles (8 km) away. Elvaston covers an area of about 0.80 square miles (2.07 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
