Elvira of Toro facts for kids
Elvira was a princess, known as an infanta, from the Kingdom of León. She was born around 1038 or 1039 and passed away on November 15, 1101. Elvira was also known as the Lady of Toro, Zamora.
She was the daughter of Ferdinand I of León and Castile, who was the King of León and Castile, and Sancha of León, the Queen. Elvira was named after her grandmother, Elvira Menéndez. She was also the aunt of Elvira of Castile, Queen of Sicily.
Her Life and Family
Elvira was an important figure in her time. She came from a powerful royal family in the Iberian Peninsula. Her father, King Ferdinand I, was a very successful ruler who united several kingdoms.
A Royal Donation
In 1087, Elvira made a significant gift. She donated a lot of land to the San Salvador de Oña monastery. This shows her support for religious institutions during that period.
