Emerson Albert Spratlen Etem (born June 16, 1992) is an American former professional ice hockey player. He used to play as a right winger. Emerson Etem was chosen by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He also played for the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. After retiring from playing in 2020, he became a coach and team owner. Today, he is a radio announcer for the Anaheim Ducks. He also co-owns the Long Beach Shredders, a junior hockey team.

Emerson Etem's Family and Early Life
Emerson Etem comes from a family that loves rowing. His mother, Patricia, was a talented rower. She even made the U.S. Olympic rowing team in 1980. However, she could not compete because of a boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
Emerson's older brother, Martin, also rowed for Syracuse University. He later became a top rower, training for the U.S. National Rowing Team. Emerson's older sister, Elise, was a great swimmer. She was nationally ranked in the butterfly stroke. She also became captain of the rowing team at the University of California, Berkeley.
Emerson and his wife, Danette, have a son born in 2016.
Emerson Etem's Hockey Journey
Playing Junior Hockey
When he was young, Emerson Etem played in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. This is a famous tournament for young hockey players.
Emerson started playing roller hockey, then ice hockey, just like his older brother Martin. He was inspired by watching talented players like Sidney Crosby. At age 14, Emerson moved to Minnesota to play at Shattuck-Saint Mary's school. He helped his team win a national title in 2008.
Later, he joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP). This program helps train young American hockey players. The Medicine Hat Tigers picked him in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.
Playing Professional Hockey
The Anaheim Ducks drafted Emerson Etem 29th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He scored his first goal in the NHL on March 18, 2013. This goal was against Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks.
In 2015, Etem was traded to the New York Rangers. He played 19 games for them. Then, in 2016, he was traded again to the Vancouver Canucks. He scored his first goal for the Canucks on February 6, 2016. He played 39 games with the Canucks, scoring 7 goals and 5 assists.
Later in 2016, Etem returned to the Anaheim Ducks. However, he got a knee injury that needed surgery. This injury ended his season. After that, he played for the Arizona Coyotes and HC Lugano in Switzerland. He also played for the Ontario Reign in the AHL. Emerson Etem retired from playing hockey in 2020.

Emerson Etem's Life After Playing Hockey
After he stopped playing hockey, Emerson Etem became a coach. For the 2020–21 season, he was the head coach of the Missoula Jr. Bruins. This is a junior ice hockey team in Montana.
In 2021, Emerson and his wife bought their own junior hockey team. They moved the Anaheim Avalanche team to Long Beach, California. They renamed the team the Long Beach Shredders. Emerson is now a part-owner, head coach, and general manager for the Shredders.
On July 20, 2023, the Anaheim Ducks hired Emerson Etem. He now works as a radio announcer for their games. He also helps create content for the Ducks' online streaming service.
