Emerson Sheik was born in Nova Iguaçu, Brazil. He began his professional football journey with São Paulo FC in 1998. This was his first big step into the world of professional football.
Playing in Japan and Qatar
In 2000, Emerson moved to Japan and joined Consadole Sapporo. He scored an amazing 31 goals in 34 games that season. After that, he played for Kawasaki Frontale, where he scored 19 goals in 18 games.
Later in 2001, he joined Urawa Red Diamonds. He continued to be a top scorer, netting 71 goals in 100 matches for them. In 2005, he moved to Al-Sadd in Qatar.
Short Time in France and Back to Qatar
In 2007, Emerson Sheik signed with Rennes in France. However, he did not play much for their main team. Al-Sadd, his former club in Qatar, was not doing well. So, Emerson returned to Al-Sadd in December 2007.
Success with Flamengo in Brazil
Emerson Sheik joined Flamengo in Brazil in 2009. He teamed up with another great player, Adriano. Together, they helped Flamengo win the 2009 Brazilian League title. This was a big achievement for the team and for Emerson.
Playing for Al Ain and Fluminense
In July 2009, Emerson moved to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. He played there for a year. Then, in July 2010, he returned to Brazil to play for Fluminense. On 5 December 2010, Emerson scored the winning goal that helped Fluminense win the Brazilian League title. This meant he had won the league two years in a row with different teams!
Winning Big with Corinthians

On 11 April 2011, Emerson Sheik joined Corinthians. On 4 December 2011, he won his third Brazilian championship in a row. He was the first player ever to win three straight Brazilian championships with three different teams.
Emerson scored two goals in the final match of the 2012 Copa Libertadores Finals on 4 July 2012. This helped Corinthians win their first Copa Libertadores title. On 16 December 2012, he was part of the Corinthians team that won the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup. They beat Chelsea 1–0 in the final.
Emerson returned to Corinthians in 2015. He played in many games, including the 2015 Copa Libertadores. He left the club in June 2015.
Loan to Botafogo
In February 2014, Emerson was loaned to Botafogo. This was his third club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He wore the number seven shirt, which was famously worn by Botafogo's legendary player, Garrincha.
Emerson Sheik's International Career
Emerson Sheik played for the Brazil Under-20 team in 1999. Later, when he was playing for Al-Sadd in Qatar, he was offered Qatari citizenship. He accepted and became a citizen of Qatar in 2008.
He made his first international appearance for the Qatar national team on 4 March 2008. This was in a friendly match against Bahrain. He also played in another friendly and a World Cup qualifying match for Qatar.
However, it was later found that because he had already played for Brazil's youth team, he was not allowed to play for Qatar. FIFA, the world football organization, confirmed this rule. Because of this, Emerson did not play for Qatar again.
