Emile Ardolino (born May 9, 1943 – died November 20, 1993) was a talented American director and producer. He worked on both television shows and movies. He is most famous for directing the popular films Dirty Dancing (1987) and Sister Act (1992). Emile Ardolino also won an Academy Award for his documentary film He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin' in 1983.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
Emile Ardolino was born in Maspeth, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. His parents were immigrants from Italy.
He started his career as an actor in plays that were not on Broadway. Later, he moved behind the scenes to produce films. In 1967, he started his own company called Compton-Ardolino Films with Gardner Compton.
Working in Television and Film
During the 1970s and 1980s, Ardolino worked for PBS, a public television network. He created special programs about dancers and choreographers. These shows were part of popular series like Dance in America and Live from Lincoln Center.
Emile Ardolino won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1983. This award was for his film He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin'. The film was about a young boy who loved to dance. He then found huge success with the movie Dirty Dancing in 1987. This film was a big hit and won an Academy Award too.
Later Years and Legacy
Emile Ardolino passed away in California on November 20, 1993, due to health complications. His last films were released after his death. These included The Nutcracker (1993), which was based on a famous ballet. He also directed the television movie Gypsy (1993), starring Bette Midler. Emile Ardolino is buried next to his parents in St. John Cemetery in New York.
