Emilio Gola was born in Milan, Italy, into a noble family in 1851. His father enjoyed painting as a hobby. He encouraged young Emilio to explore art when he was a teenager.
Early Life and Training
Emilio first studied industrial engineering. He graduated from Milan Polytechnic in 1873. However, he soon decided to become a painter instead. He learned a lot about art from another artist named Sebastiano De Albertis. Emilio also traveled often to places like Paris, France, and the Netherlands. These trips helped him learn different art styles.
Becoming a Famous Painter
Emilio Gola first showed his paintings in 1879. This was at a big art show at the Brera Academy in Milan. After that, he regularly showed his work in Italy. He became very famous across Europe for his art.
By the 1880s, Emilio was well-known for painting portraits. He often painted wealthy women from Milan. He showed them in their fashionable clothes. His paintings were very realistic, almost like a photograph.
His Art Style
Besides portraits, Emilio Gola also painted many landscapes. He created beautiful scenes of Milan and the countryside of Brianza. These paintings used bright colors. Using bright colors became his special artistic style.
Later in his life, he spent time painting in Liguria and Venice. During this period, he focused on seascapes. These paintings showed the sea with simple shapes and strong feelings. One of his students was another painter named Alberto Malaspina (painter). Emilio Gola passed away in 1923.
