Starting with Sports

Emma Johansson was born in Sollefteå, a town in northern Sweden. When she was young, she loved cross-country skiing. Later, she became interested in mountain biking because of her older brother. She practiced on dirt roads and lighted trails near her home. At just 12 years old, in 1996, she won her first silver medal at the Swedish national mountain bike championships.

Breakthrough Year: 2008 Olympics

The year 2008 was a very important one for Emma. She joined a new cycling team and had a great spring season. She finished third in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and ninth in the Tour of Flanders. On August 10, Emma won a silver medal in the women's road race at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She made a strong move near the end of the race, joining the lead group. She finished second, just behind Nicole Cooke. A few days later, she placed 21st in the time trial event.

After the Olympics, she won the overall title at the Trophée d'Or Féminin. At the World Championships Road Race in Florence, she again finished near the top, placing fourth.

Success in 2009 and Beyond

In 2009, Emma continued to show her strength. She finished second in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio and third in the Tour of Flanders for Women. She then won the Ronde van Drenthe and took the lead in the UCI Women's Road World Cup standings. She was only the second Swedish cyclist ever to wear the World Cup leader's jersey.

Emma continued to achieve great results. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she finished sixth in the women's road race and 14th in the time trial. In August 2015, it was announced that Emma would join the Wiggle Honda team for two years. She retired from professional cycling after the 2016 season.
