Emmanuel Wanyonyi grew up in Kenya as one of twelve children. He was the only one in his family who loved to run. When he was 10 years old, he had to leave school to help his family. He worked as a cattle herder to earn money.

Starting Strong: 2021–2023
Emmanuel Wanyonyi started his career with a bang! In 2021, he won a gold medal at the World Under-20 Championships. He even set a new record for that competition. When he was 18, he finished fourth at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
