Melissa Owens Miller (born June 30, 1963), known as Emme, is an American plus-size model, social reformer and body image advocate. She became famous worldwide as the first full-figured model chosen for People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People. This happened first in 1994, and then again in 1999. Emme was widely known in the 1990s as the top model in her field. She was also the highest-earning model.

Early Life and Education

Emme, whose birth name is Melissa Miller, was born in New York City. She grew up in Saudi Arabia. As a teenager, she moved back to the United States. She attended Kent School in northwest Connecticut.

Emme received a full athletic scholarship from Syracuse University. She joined the crew team there. She is also a member of the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame. She was honored for her important contributions to women's sports and to rowing. Emme was also invited to try out for the U.S. Olympic Team. She also tried out for several U.S. National Teams.

After graduating in 1985, she lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, for two years. There, she worked as a reporter and morning anchor for KNAZ-TV, an NBC news station.

Modeling and Business Career

In 1998, Emme made history. She was the first plus-size model to be a spokesperson for Revlon. Revlon is a well-known beauty company. Emme also had her own sportswear clothing line. It was called me BY EMME and sold at QVC. She also had the Emme Collection sportswear line. This line was sold in department stores.

A special 16-inch collectible doll was made in Emme's name. Money from the doll helps organizations that support positive body image and self-esteem.

Personal Life and Family

Emme's sister, Melanie, is also a model. Emme married Phillip Aronson in 1989. They moved to New Jersey. In 2001, Emme's daughter, Toby, was born. Emme and Phillip separated in 2007. Their divorce was finalized in 2008. Emme's daughter, Toby Cole, has recently appeared in Teen Vogue. She is also signed with IMG Models.

Health Journey

In May 2007, Emme was diagnosed with Stage 2a Hodgkin's lymphoma. This is a type of cancer that affects the immune system. It can often be cured with treatments like radiation and chemotherapy. She had surgery. In November 2007, doctors announced that she was "cancer-free." This was great news for her and her family.
