Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Encyclopedia of Alabama is a special online encyclopedia all about the state of Alabama. It's like a huge digital book that tells you about Alabama's past, its culture, its geography, and its amazing natural places. You can find lots of facts and stories there!

What is the Encyclopedia of Alabama?

This online encyclopedia is a big team effort. More than 40 different groups and organizations from all over Alabama work together on it. They share their archives (which are like collections of old documents, photos, and records) to help create the content.

Auburn University is a big part of the project. They provide the space for the encyclopedia's main offices and the computers (called servers) that keep the website running. The Alabama Humanities Foundation makes sure the original stories and information in the encyclopedia are protected by copyright. This means they own the rights to the content.

The project gets money from many different places. Some of its funding comes from the Alabama Department of Education and the University of Alabama. This support helps keep the encyclopedia free and available for everyone to use.

Who Leads the Project?

Many talented people have helped lead the Encyclopedia of Alabama. A historian named Wayne Flynt was the very first editor-in-chief. He helped get the whole project started.

Today, the editor-in-chief is Claire Wilson. She helps guide the team and makes sure all the information is correct and easy to understand.
