Early Life and Education
Porrino was born in the city of Cagliari. This city is the capital of Sardinia. He studied music at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. This was a famous music school. There, he learned how to compose and understand music deeply.
Composing and Teaching
Ennio Porrino wrote many beautiful pieces of music. His most famous work is a symphonic poem called "Sardegna." A symphonic poem is a piece of orchestral music that tells a story or describes a scene. "Sardegna" was a special tribute to his home island. It was first performed in Florence in 1933.
Besides composing, Porrino was also a dedicated teacher. He taught music at conservatories in several Italian cities. These included Rome, Venice, and Naples. A conservatory is a special school for music or art. In 1956, he became the director of the Cagliari Conservatory. This was a big honor for him.
Family and Final Works
In 1956, the same year he became a director, Porrino married Malgari Onnis. She was an artist who painted and designed for the theater. They had one daughter named Stefania, born in 1957. Stefania later became a playwright (someone who writes plays) and a stage director.
Ennio Porrino's last major work was an opera called "I Shardana." His wife, Malgari, helped design the stage for this opera. "I Shardana" was first performed on March 21, 1959. Sadly, Porrino passed away just six months later. His music continues to be remembered and performed today.
