Erbie Bowser (born May 5, 1918 – died August 15, 1995) was a talented American musician. He was known for playing the piano and singing blues music.

Erbie Bowser's Early Life and Music

Erbie Bowser was born in Davilla, Texas. As a child, he moved with his family to Palestine, Texas. He grew up in a family that loved music. Erbie learned to play the piano and started his musical journey early.

Joining Bands and Touring

As a teenager, Erbie joined a group called the North Carolina Cotton Pickers Review. After finishing school, he became part of the Sunset Royal Entertainers. With this band, he toured around Texas, playing music for many people.

Serving His Country

In 1942, Erbie joined the military. He served in Europe and North Africa during World War II. During his time in the military, he was part of the Special Services Band. He also performed in USO shows, entertaining soldiers.

Returning to Texas and Finding a Partner

After the war, Erbie returned to Texas. He worked in construction and also studied at Jarvis Christian College for two years. Around 1949, he got married and moved to Odessa, Texas. There, he worked for a drilling company. But his love for music continued. He met a guitarist named T. D. Bell. They formed a musical team and played together in clubs across west Texas and New Mexico.

Music in Austin

In the mid-1950s, Erbie Bowser moved to Austin, Texas. He continued to play music with different local bands. Around 1960, his musical partner, T. D. Bell, also moved to Austin. They started playing together again in clubs, especially at a famous place called the Victory Grill.

The Blues Specialists

Erbie and T. D. Bell joined forces with other musicians, including Roosevelt "Grey Ghost" Williams. They formed a band called the Blues Specialists. This group played regularly in and around Austin throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Erbie Bowser had a special way of playing the piano. He mixed different styles like big band, barrelhouse, and Southern boogie-woogie to create his own unique sound.

Later Career and Recognition

After a short break, Erbie Bowser and T. D. Bell started playing together again. In 1992, they recorded an album called It's About Time. This album was very good and was even nominated for a W. C. Handy Award. After this, Erbie Bowser became more famous. He performed by himself and with T. D. Bell at many blues festivals. He even played at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City. The Blues Specialists also got back together for regular club performances.

Erbie Bowser passed away in Austin in 1995.
