Eric Gordon Cunningham (born April 14, 1949 – died January 1, 2015) was a Canadian politician from the province of Ontario. He was a member of the Liberal Party and served as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1975 to 1984.

Early Life and Education

Eric Cunningham was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He studied at two universities: the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University. Before he became a politician, he worked as an advertising executive. He also helped create a group called the Ontario New Liberal Association. In 1968, he received a special award from the province.

His Time in Politics

Eric Cunningham first ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada in the 1974 Canadian federal election. He was a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada, but he did not win.

The next year, in 1975, he was elected to the Ontario legislature. He won against the Progressive Conservative candidate in the area of Wentworth North. He was re-elected in 1977 with even more votes. He won again in the 1981 Ontario general election.

In 1984, Eric Cunningham decided to leave the provincial legislature. He wanted to run for the federal parliament again. However, he lost this election to the Progressive Conservative candidate. This was during a time when the Progressive Conservative Party won many seats across Canada.

After Politics

After leaving politics, Eric Cunningham joined a company called United Water Canada in 1999. He became the vice-president of business development for Canada. In 2002, he talked about how his company was looking into working with Canadian cities to improve water treatment.

He also stayed involved with the Liberal Party. Eric Cunningham passed away on January 1, 2015, at the age of 65.
