Eric Andrew Moreland, born on December 24, 1991, is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Oregon State Beavers.

Early Basketball Days

High School Highlights

After finishing Hightower High School in January 2010, Eric went to Ocean Academy for a semester. There, he played really well, scoring about 15.5 points and blocking 2.6 shots per game.

College Career at Oregon State

Eric first planned to play for UTEP, but after a coaching change, he decided to join Oregon State in May 2010. The NCAA allowed him to start playing right away.

During his first year at Oregon State, Eric played only four games. He had to stop playing because of a shoulder injury that needed surgery. He was given a special medical pass, so he still had four years of college eligibility left.

In his next season (2011–12), Eric played in all 36 games. He led his conference in blocked shots, which was a big achievement. He also set a new Oregon State record with 69 blocked shots in one season. On average, he scored 5.2 points, grabbed 6.8 rebounds, and blocked 1.9 shots per game.

In his sophomore year, Eric was recognized for his strong defense. He was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week in December 2012. He had two "double-doubles" (meaning he got double digits in two stats like points and rebounds) in two games. He averaged 9.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game that season.

In his junior year, Eric played in 20 games. He was again honored for his defense. He became one of only three players in Oregon State history to average double-digit rebounds in more than one season. He averaged 8.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game.

On April 12, 2014, Eric decided to enter the NBA draft early. He finished his college career as Oregon State's all-time leader in blocked shots. He also ranked fifth in total rebounds. He earned his degree in Human Development and Family Science in March 2014.

Professional Basketball Journey

Starting with the Sacramento Kings (2014–2016)

Eric was not chosen in the 2014 NBA draft, but he joined the Sacramento Kings for the Summer League. He signed with the Kings in July 2014. He also played for their minor league team, the Reno Bighorns. In January 2015, he had another shoulder injury that ended his season.

He recovered and played in the 2015 NBA Summer League. He averaged 6.4 points and 8.0 rebounds. The Kings waived him in July 2015 but signed him again in September. In December 2015, he broke a bone in his left foot and needed surgery. He was out for eight weeks. He returned to play for the Reno Bighorns in March 2016.

Playing for the Canton Charge (2016–2017)

In September 2016, Eric signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they waived him soon after. He then joined the Canton Charge in the NBA Development League (now G League) in November 2016. In February 2017, he was chosen to play in the NBA D-League All-Star Game. At the end of the season, he was named to the All-NBA D-League Third Team and the NBA D-League All-Defensive Team.

Time with the Detroit Pistons (2017–2018)

Eric signed with the Detroit Pistons in July 2017. In January 2018, he started his first NBA game, filling in for an injured teammate. He set new personal bests with 8 points, 4 assists, and 36 minutes played. In the last game of the season in April 2018, Eric had career highs with 16 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 steals.

Joining the Phoenix Suns (2018–2019)

After being waived by the Pistons and briefly by the Toronto Raptors, Eric played for Team USA in November and December 2018. He then signed with the Phoenix Suns in December 2018. He played only one game with the Suns before being waived in January 2019.

Return to the Toronto Raptors (2019)

On March 14, 2019, the Toronto Raptors signed Eric to a 10-day contract. He played with them the same day. His contract was not renewed at first, but the Raptors signed him again in April 2019 for the rest of the season. Eric won an NBA Championship with the Raptors in 2019. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.

Playing in China: Shanxi Loongs (2019–2021)

In October 2019, Eric signed with the Shanxi Loongs in China. He made his debut in November, contributing 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists in a win.

This made him one of only three basketball players to win both an NBA and a CBA championship. He continued to win CBA titles with the team in 2023 and 2024.
