Meet Eric Robert Walters, a super cool Canadian author born on March 3, 1957! He writes amazing books for young adults and even picture books for younger kids. Guess what? By 2020, he had already written more than 100 books!

Becoming a Writer

Eric Walters used to be an elementary school teacher. In 1993, he taught a Grade 5 class in Streetsville, Ontario. Many of his students didn't really like reading or writing. To help them, Eric wrote his very first novel, Stand Your Ground.

This book was special because it was set right in their school! It even used places from their town and the names of many of his students. This helped his students get excited about reading. Since then, he has written many, many novels for young adults.

His books are super popular! Students across Ontario have voted for his books to win the Ontario Library Association Silver Birch and Red Maple Awards three times. Over 100,000 students take part in these votes! His stories have also been translated and published in many different countries.

About Eric's Life

Eric Walters was born and grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Today, he lives in Guelph, Ontario, with his wife, Anita. They have three grown-up children named Christina, Nick, and Julia.

Eric loves to experience things firsthand for his books. This helps him write really realistic stories!

  • In 2010, he walked across the Sahara Desert before writing Just Deserts.
  • He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with his son for his book Between Heaven and Earth.
  • He even played with tigers before writing Tiger by the Tail!

Helping Others: Creation of Hope

Beyond writing, Eric Walters also started an amazing organization called Creation of Hope. This group helps orphans in the Mbooni area of Kenya.

Right now, Creation of Hope helps over 400 orphans. They provide important things like:

  • Food
  • Money for school fees
  • School uniforms
  • Tools
  • Beds
  • Livestock (like farm animals)

They have also built two children's homes in the town of Kikima.
