About Eric Walters

Eric Walters used to be a teacher. He taught at an elementary school in Ontario, Canada. In 1993, he taught a Grade 5 class. Many students in his class did not like to read or write much.

How He Started Writing

To help his students, Eric Walters wrote his first book. It was called Stand Your Ground. The story was set in their school and even used the names of his students. This made reading more fun for them! Since then, he has written many more books for young adults.

Awards for His Books

Eric Walters has won many awards for his books. He has won the Ontario Library Association Silver Birch and Red Maple Awards three times. These awards are special because over 100,000 students in Ontario vote for their favorite books. His books are also popular around the world. They have been translated into many different languages.

Eric's Life and Adventures

Eric Walters was born and grew up in Toronto, Canada. Today, he lives in Guelph, Ontario, with his wife, Anita. They have three grown-up children named Christina, Nick, and Julia.

Experiencing Stories Firsthand

Eric Walters likes to experience the things he writes about. This helps him make his stories feel real. For example, in April 2010, he walked across the Sahara Desert. He did this before writing his book Just Deserts.

He also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with his son. This adventure helped him write Between Heaven and Earth. Before writing Tiger by the Tail, he even spent time playing with tigers!

Helping Others in Kenya

Eric Walters also started an organization called Creation of Hope. This group helps children who do not have parents in Mbooni, Kenya. More than 400 children get help from this organization. They receive food, school fees, uniforms, and even beds. The organization has also built two homes for children in Kikima.
