Erik King (born April 21, 1963) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Sergeant James Doakes in the TV series Dexter. Many people also know him as Moses Deyell in the show Oz.
King has also appeared in popular movies. These include National Treasure, Casualties of War, and True Crime. He has had a long career in both television and film since the 1980s.

Early Life and Education
Erik King was born in Washington, D.C.. His father worked as a police officer. Growing up, King became interested in acting. He attended The Duke Ellington High School of Performing Arts, a special school for students talented in the arts.
After high school, he went to Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland, to continue his studies.
Acting Career
First Roles on Television
King started his acting career with roles in popular TV shows. He appeared in crime dramas like Matlock, NYPD Blue, and JAG. In 1990, he had a main role in the police show Sunset Beat.
He also played the character Moses Deyell in the HBO series Oz. Over the years, he made guest appearances in many other shows, including Malcolm in the Middle, Charmed, and CSI: Miami.
Famous Role in Dexter
King became very well-known for playing Sergeant James Doakes in the TV series Dexter. Doakes was a tough police sergeant who was the main rival of the show's main character. King appeared in the first two seasons of the show, from 2006 to 2007. He later returned for a guest appearance in 2012.
His performance as Doakes was so popular that he was nominated for a Saturn Award in 2008. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor on Television. King said he enjoyed playing a tough character like Doakes.
Work in Movies
Besides television, Erik King has acted in several movies. He played Agent Colfax in the adventure movie National Treasure alongside Nicolas Cage. He also appeared in the thriller Desperate Measures and the war film Casualties of War.
