Erin Wall (born November 4, 1975 – died October 8, 2020) was a talented Canadian-American opera singer. She was a soprano, which means she had a high singing voice. Erin sang in operas all over the world from 2001 until she passed away in 2020. She was especially known for her performances with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. People loved her singing in operas by famous composers like Mozart and Strauss. She performed leading roles in major opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York and La Scala in Italy.

Erin Wall was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to American parents. She loved music and studied at several schools, including the Vancouver Academy of Music and Rice University. In 2003, she was a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, which is a big deal for young singers.

In July 2002, Erin made her international debut. This means she performed for the first time on a global stage. She sang in a piece called War Requiem by Benjamin Britten with the London Symphony Orchestra. This special performance took place at St Paul's Cathedral in London.

Erin Wall passed away on October 8, 2020, at the age of 44, due to complications from an illness. She is remembered by her family, including her husband, Roberto Mauro, and their two children, Michael and Julia.

Her Amazing Career

After finishing her training at the Lyric Opera of Chicago's program for young artists, Erin Wall joined the company for three seasons. She made her first professional opera appearance with them in 2001. She quickly made a big impression. In September 2004, she stepped in to sing the role of Donna Anna in the opera Don Giovanni at the last minute. Critics praised her performance, saying she sang "gloriously" and with "precision and verve."

Erin sang many other important roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. These included Marguerite in Faust (2003), Pamina in The Magic Flute (2005), and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (2007). She also performed as Helena in the Lyric's first-ever production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night's Dream (2010).

In 2006, Erin performed at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York. A famous music critic, Alex Ross, noticed her talent. He said she sang with "grace and fire" and hoped she would be invited to perform at the Met. She certainly did!

Erin also performed internationally in cities like Paris, Aix-en-Provence, and Vienna. In 2007, she took on the challenging role of Daphne in Richard Strauss's opera Daphne at the Santa Fe Opera. Critics said she showed "impressive command" of the difficult music. She later returned to Santa Fe to sing the main roles in Arabella (2012) and Vanessa (2016).

On April 13, 2009, Erin Wall made her debut at the famous Metropolitan Opera in New York. She sang Donna Anna in Don Giovanni again and received great reviews. She later returned to the Met to sing in other operas, including Strauss's Arabella.

In 2011, Erin Wall sang alongside the legendary bass-baritone Ruggero Raimondi at the opening of the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima, Peru. This was a very special event.

Later in her career, in 2017 and 2019, Erin toured with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. They performed Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes in several cities, including London and Edinburgh. Erin sang the role of Ellen Orford, a key character in the opera.

Erin Wall performed leading roles with many other opera companies and festivals around the world. These included the Aix-en-Provence Festival, La Scala in Italy, the Paris Opera, and the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna. Her powerful voice and stage presence made her a beloved artist in the world of opera.
