Ermal Meta (born April 20, 1981) is a talented singer and songwriter. He was born in Albania but later moved to Italy.

He became well-known as a lead singer in bands like Ameba 4 and La Fame di Camilla. After writing many songs for other famous Italian artists, Ermal started his own solo music career.

His albums, like Umano (2016) and Vietato morire (2017), became very popular. Vietato morire even reached number one in Italy! The song "Vietato morire" also won third place at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2017.

In 2018, Ermal Meta won the Sanremo Music Festival. This allowed him to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

Early Life

Ermal Meta was born in Fier, Albania. When he was 13 years old, he and his family moved to Bari, a city in southern Italy.

His music journey began as a guitarist in an Italian band called Ameba4. This band took part in the Sanremo Music Festival in 2006. They performed their song "Rido... forse mi sbaglio." This song was part of their first album, released in February 2006.

Music Career

Starting with Bands

In 2007, Ermal Meta became the main singer and songwriter for a new band called La Fame di Camilla. Their first album, simply titled La Fame di Camilla, came out in 2009.

The band later released two more albums: Buio e luce and L'attesa (2012). The song "Buio e luce" was also performed at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2010. The band eventually broke up in 2013.

Becoming a Songwriter

After his band split, Ermal Meta started writing songs for many other famous Italian artists. Some of these artists include Marco Mengoni, Emma, Chiara, and Annalisa.

In 2013, he was featured on a song called "Non mi interessa" by Patty Pravo. In 2014, he sang "Tutto si muove" for the soundtrack of an Italian TV show called Braccialetti rossi.

Solo Success

Ermal Meta began his solo career in 2016. He competed in the Sanremo Music Festival again with his song "Odio le favole." He placed third in the Newcomers' section. This song was part of his first solo album, Umano.

He returned to the Sanremo Music Festival in 2017. This time, he competed in the main competition with his song "Vietato morire." During the festival, he also performed a cover of "Amara terra mia" by Domenico Modugno. He won an award for the Best Cover Performance. Ermal Meta finished third overall in the competition and received the "Mia Martini" Critics' Prize.

His second album, also called Vietato morire, was released in February 2017. This album included a duet with another Italian singer, Elisa.

In March 2017, Ermal Meta became a judge on a popular Italian talent show called Amici di Maria De Filippi.

Winning Sanremo and Eurovision

On February 11, 2018, Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro won the main section of the Sanremo Music Festival 2018. Their winning song was "Non mi avete fatto niente." Because they won, they got to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal.

In 2020, he released a new song called "Finirà bene." He also competed in the Sanremo Music Festival 2021 with his song "Un milione di cose da dirti," where he placed third.
