Samuel Ernest Palmer (born March 28, 1858 – died December 8, 1948) was an important British businessman. He was also a very generous supporter of music. People often knew him as Sir Ernest Palmer before he received a higher title.

His Early Life and Business
Ernest Palmer was the oldest son of Samuel Palmer, who lived in Hampstead. He went to school at Malvern College. After school, he became a director at his family's company, Huntley & Palmers Ltd. This company, located in Reading, Berkshire, was the biggest biscuit maker in the world!
A Champion of Music
Even though he was a successful businessman, Ernest Palmer is most famous for his love of music. He helped the music world in many ways. He was a vice-president and a member of the council at the Royal College of Music. In 1921, he became the first person to be named a Fellow of the college.
He also started several important funds to help musicians. These included the Royal College of Music Patron's Fund. He also created the Berkshire Scholarship and the Ernest Palmer Fund for Opera Study. These funds helped many young musicians and opera singers.
His Special Titles
Because of his important work and generosity, Ernest Palmer received special honors. In 1916, he was made a Baronet. This means he received the title "Sir" and his family could inherit it. His title was "of Grosvenor Crescent" in London.
Later, on June 24, 1933, he received an even higher honor. He was made a Baron Palmer. This meant he became a "Lord" and could sit in the House of Lords. His full title was "Baron Palmer, of Reading" in Berkshire.
His Family Life
Lord Palmer married Amy Christiana in 1881. She was the daughter of George Swan Nottage, who was once the Lord Mayor of London. Amy died in 1947. Lord Palmer passed away a year later, in December 1948, when he was 90 years old. His son, Cecil, inherited his titles.
