Ernest Peak is a tall mountain peak located right on the border between Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. It's also known as Lyell 3, L3, or sometimes just Mount Lyell on maps. This peak is the highest of five distinct smaller peaks that make up the larger Mount Lyell (Canada) mountain.

For a while, people weren't sure if Ernest Peak (Lyell 3) or Lyell 2 was the tallest. But a newer climbing guide for the Canadian Rocky Mountains confirmed that Ernest Peak is indeed the highest. The peak was officially named in 1972 by Sydney R. Vallance, honoring Ernest Feuz Jr., who was part of the first group to climb it.

Where is Ernest Peak?

Ernest Peak is part of the impressive Canadian Rockies mountain range. It stands proudly on the border, meaning one side is in Alberta and the other is in British Columbia. This area is known for its stunning natural beauty, with many other mountains, glaciers, and national parks nearby.

How Tall is Ernest Peak?

Ernest Peak reaches an elevation of 3,498 meters (about 11,476 feet) above sea level. To give you an idea, that's almost as tall as 10 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! Its height makes it a significant landmark in the region.
