Early Life and Family
Ernesto Villegas was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1970. He is the youngest of eight children. His father, Cruz Villegas, was a well-known union leader. His mother, Maja Poljak, was a social activist and photographer. She was born in Zagreb, Croatia.
Career in Media
Ernesto Villegas studied journalism at the Central University of Venezuela. After graduating, he worked for several newspapers. These included Economía Hoy, El Nuevo País, and El Universal. He also worked on television shows like En Confianza and Despertó Venezuela for Venezolana de Televisión. He was also the editor of the newspaper Ciudad Caracas.
Public Service Roles
Ernesto Villegas has served in several important government positions. From October 2012 to August 2013, he was the Minister of Popular Power for Communication and Information. This role involved managing government communications.
Later, in December 2013, he became the Minister of State for the Revolutionary Transformation of Greater Caracas. This job focused on improving the Caracas area. From October 2014 to May 2015, he served as the Head of Government for the Venezuelan Capital District. He has also been the Minister of Culture.
