Ernest Mitchell Andrews Jr. (December 25, 1927 – February 21, 2022) was an American singer. He was famous for his powerful voice in jazz, blues, and pop music. Ernie had a long and successful career, sharing his music with audiences for many decades.
Ernie Andrews' Life and Music Career
Ernie Andrews was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Los Angeles, California. A songwriter named Joe Greene discovered Ernie in 1945. Greene also wrote Ernie's most famous song, "Soothe Me."
Joining the Harry James Orchestra
Ernie became a singer with the famous Harry James orchestra. His first performance with them was on November 26, 1958. This show took place at the Blue Note jazz club in Chicago. He also recorded music with Columbia Records and other record companies.
Career Ups and Downs
Ernie's career slowed down a bit in the 1960s and 1970s. But he made a big comeback in the 1980s! He recorded with several other talented musicians and bands. These included the Capp/Pierce Juggernaut Band, Gene Harris, Jay McShann, and the Harper Brothers. Ernie also played an important role in a documentary film called Blues for Central Avenue.
Ernie Andrews passed away on February 21, 2022. He was 94 years old. He left behind a wonderful legacy of music.
