A Musician's Early Life
Ernő Balogh started his music education early. From 1905 to 1917, he studied at the Budapest Conservatory. This was a special music school in Hungary.
Learning from Masters
At the Conservatory, Balogh had amazing teachers. Two of them were very famous composers: Béla Bartók taught him piano, and Zoltán Kodály taught him how to compose music. Balogh became good friends with both of these important musicians. He even helped Bartók with his first concert tour in the United States in 1927.
Winning Awards and Moving to America
Balogh was very good at both piano and composing. He won the Franz Liszt Prize for his skills in these areas. After finishing his studies in Budapest, he learned even more piano from Leonid Kreutzer in Berlin. In 1924, Balogh decided to move to the United States.

When Balogh moved to the United States, he settled in New York City. He quickly became a successful musician.

In 1936, Ernő Balogh married Malvina Schweizer. She was a smart scientist who became a biology professor at New York University.

Ernő and Malvina lived in New York until 1960. Then, they moved to Washington, D.C.. This move happened because Balogh accepted a teaching job at the Peabody Conservatory. The Peabody Conservatory is a well-known music school in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ernő Balogh recorded some of his piano performances. One of his recordings from the 1950s featured music by the famous composer Frédéric Chopin. On this recording, Balogh played a Steinway piano.
