Escape Into Night is a classic British TV show from 1972. It was made for children and has a mix of fantasy and horror. The show was produced by ATV and shown on ITV. It had six episodes, each about 25 minutes long. The series was directed by Richard Bramall.

What is "Escape Into Night" About?

This TV series is based on a book called Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. The book was written in 1958. The story tells about a young girl named Marianne. She starts drawing pictures, and then these drawings come alive in her dreams.

As the story goes on, the line between what's real and what's a dream becomes blurry for Marianne. It's a bit like a mystery where you're not sure what's happening. The book was also made into a movie later, called Paperhouse in 1988.

How Was It Made?

The show was filmed in colour. However, the original colour recordings have been lost over time. Because of this, only black-and-white copies of the series still exist today. These copies were released on DVD in the UK in May 2009.

Music and Filming Locations

The theme music for Escape Into Night came from a famous piece of music. It used a part of the Symphony No.6 in E minor by the composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The show was filmed in a place called Barr Beacon, which is near Aldridge in the United Kingdom.
