Eshaq Jahangiri Kouhshahi, born on January 21, 1958, is an important Iranian politician. He served as the first vice president of Iran from 2013 to 2021 under President Hassan Rouhani. Before that, he was the minister of industries and mines from 1997 to 2005. He also worked as the governor of Isfahan Province and was a member of the Iranian Parliament for two terms.

Early Life and Education
Eshaq Jahangiri was born in Sirjan County, Kerman Province, on January 21, 1958. He studied physics at the University of Kerman. Before the Iranian Revolution, he was active in groups that wanted change. He was even injured by the forces of the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
Later, he earned a PhD in industrial management from Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch, Tehran. He is married to Manijeh Jahangiri. They have four children: Hossein, Hesam, Faezeh, and Hoda.
Political Journey

Jahangiri started his political career after the Iranian Revolution. In July 1980, he became the deputy head of the agriculture department in Kerman. By 1982, he was leading the department.
He was elected to the Iranian Parliament in 1984 and again in 1988. On September 1, 1992, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani appointed him as the governor of Isfahan. He held this job until August 20, 1997.
Then, Mohammad Khatami chose him to be the minister of mines and metals. The Parliament approved this choice. Later, his job title changed to minister of industries and mines. He kept this role until 2005.
Becoming First Vice President
Jahangiri was considered a possible candidate for the 2013 Iranian presidential election. However, he decided not to run and instead supported Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. He even managed Rafsanjani's election campaign.
He helped start the Executives of Construction Party. He was also a member of Mir-Hossein Mousavi's campaign team in the 2009 Iranian presidential election.
In July 2013, it was announced that Jahangiri would become the next first vice president. This was confirmed on July 29. On August 4, President Hassan Rouhani officially appointed him to this important position. He took over from Mohammad Reza Rahimi.
2017 Presidential Election
In April 2017, Jahangiri decided to register as a candidate for the 2017 Iranian presidential election. The Guardian Council approved him on April 20, 2017. Many people thought he ran to help President Rouhani during the debates. He withdrew from the race on May 16, 2017, before the voting began. After Hassan Rouhani won the election, Jahangiri was reappointed as first vice president.
COVID-19 Outbreak
In March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran, some reports said that Jahangiri had caught the virus. On March 11, a semi-official news agency confirmed his infection. By March 15, his office announced that he had recovered. He tested negative for the virus and returned to his work.
Jahangiri's Brothers
Eshaq Jahangiri has four brothers: Ebrahim, Yaqub, Mohammad, and Mehdi. Mehdi is the most well-known among them.
Sadly, Mohammad and Yaqub were killed during the Iran-Iraq War.
Mehdi Jahangiri
Mehdi Jahangiri, Eshaq's brother, started the Tourism Financial Group. He also founded a private company called "Semega," which focuses on cultural heritage and tourism investment in Iran. In addition, he established the private bank known as Tourism Bank.
