The First Vice President of Iran (Persian: معاون اول رئیسجمهور ایران) is a very important job in the Iranian government. This person is chosen by the President of Iran to help manage presidential affairs. Think of them as the President's main helper.
As of 2025, there are fourteen vice presidents in Iran. The First Vice President has a special role: they lead meetings of the Cabinet (which is like the President's team of top advisors and ministers) when the President is not there.

What Does the First Vice President Do?
The role of the First Vice President was created in 1989. Before that, Iran had a Prime Minister. The First Vice President took over some of the Prime Minister's duties.
Leading the Government
The First Vice President is in charge of the board of ministers. They also help coordinate the work of the other vice presidents. This is all done with the President's approval.
Taking Over if Needed
If the President cannot do their job, or if the position becomes empty, the First Vice President steps in as acting President. This needs to be approved by the Supreme Leader.
When someone is acting as President, a special group is formed. This group includes the acting President (usually the First Vice President), the Speaker of the Parliament, and the head of the justice system. Their job is to make sure a new President is chosen within fifty days.
During the time an acting President is in charge, some rules change. For example, the Parliament cannot remove ministers from their jobs. They also cannot reject new ministers. The country's main laws (the Constitution) cannot be changed, and national votes (referendums) cannot be held.
