Esperanza is a small, friendly comunidad (which means "community" or "neighborhood") located on the south side of Vieques Island. It's part of the Puerto Real area. This charming spot was once home to a historic place called Hacienda Casa del Frances. This old estate is so important that it's listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Esperanza has a special kind of weather because of where it is. It's located inside the tropics, which is the warm part of Earth near the equator. It's also very close to the sea and not very high up.
