Essunga Municipality (which is called Essunga kommun in Swedish) is a special local area in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. It's like a small region with its own local government. The main town, or "seat," where the local government offices are, is called Nossebro.

How Essunga Municipality Was Formed
The way Essunga Municipality is set up today has changed a few times over the years. Back in 1952, there was a big change in how municipalities were organized in Sweden. Essunga Municipality was created from eight smaller areas that joined together.
Later, in 1974, Essunga Municipality was actually closed down for a while. It became part of another municipality called Vara Municipality. But don't worry, it didn't stay that way forever! In 1983, Essunga Municipality was brought back to life, with the same borders it had in 1952. There's also a smaller village nearby called Essunga, which is just east of Nossebro.
Who Lives in Essunga?
Essunga Municipality is home to many people. In 2022, there were about 5,691 people living there. Out of these, about 4,380 were Swedish citizens old enough to vote.
When people voted in the 2022 Swedish general election, about 41.1% of the votes went to parties on the "left side" of politics, and about 58.0% went to parties on the "right side." This shows how people in Essunga Municipality voted for different political ideas.
